The Vrenberg Method
Built on the only techniques that survived the evidence.
Dunlosky and colleagues evaluated ten learning strategies across decades of research. Only two received the highest utility rating. Vrenberg is built exclusively on those two — and the two that ranked next.
Retrieval practice
Recalling information from memory strengthens retention far more than re-reading it. Karpicke and Roediger (2008, Science) showed that repeated retrieval markedly enhanced long-term retention, whereas repeated study produced essentially no benefit. Every interaction on Vrenberg is an act of retrieval.

Spaced repetition
Distributing practice over expanding intervals produces stronger retention than massing it into a single session. Cepeda and colleagues confirmed this in a meta-analysis of 254 studies. Vrenberg schedules each rule at intervals calibrated to the individual candidate's performance decay.

Interleaving
Mixing problem types within a session forces deeper discrimination between similar concepts — exactly what the MBE demands. Vrenberg interleaves rules across subjects so the candidate learns to distinguish doctrine, not just recognize it within a familiar context.

Desirable difficulties
Bjork demonstrated that conditions which slow apparent learning often optimize long-term retention and transfer. Struggle is not the enemy of learning when it is structured and recoverable. Vrenberg applies this through adaptive difficulty, timed constraints, and deliberate resurfacing of weak rules.

The Real-or-Vrenberg challenge mixes official released NCBE sample questions with Vrenberg output and asks visitors to tell them apart. The statistics are computed live from every submission. If the questions were distinguishable, the numbers would show it.
