Discovery — interrogatories
FRCP 33
The rule
A party may serve no more than 25 written interrogatories, including all discrete subparts, on any other party. Answers must be under oath, served within 30 days, and any objection must be stated with specificity or is waived. Contention interrogatories are permitted but the court may defer answers until after other discovery.
In plain English
Interrogatories are written questions answered under oath. They only run to parties (unlike Rule 45 subpoenas). The 25-question cap includes subparts that are truly discrete.
